Country Of Daughters
This blog is just where I leave my thoughts on being an artist and life itself.

At A DQ Drive-Thru
So...I was sitting in the drive-thru at our local Dairy Queen, listening to an old AC/DC tune when my eyes wandered off to the little woods across a small field next to the restraught. I noticed some of the leaves on the trees looked like the might be changing color. The sky was overcast andit was drizzling just a bit, but I had my window down (mainly because I can't stand air conditioning. I like real air.) Through it I caught the strong smell of onion rings from the DQ and gas smell from the car ahead me. I don't know what it was about the combination of the song, the smells, and the sight of the turning leaves, but I was hit with the most overwhelming sense of homesickness. Or it could of been nostalgia, something remembered by my spirit from my past. I suddenly just wanted to cry for the past, roads not taken, chances gone. It put me in a melancholy mood that I haven't quite shaken off yet.

What A Week
What a week I had.
Monday-no orders at work when I arrived. We didn't get any until about 1 pm, then had to do the special orders leaving the rest for Tuesday.
So Tuesday we had to bust butt to get 3000 orders out when we normally have 1200-1400 orders. We got them out after working some overtime and much growling.
Wednesday morning first thing I dropped a weight on my foot. Too painful! So I worked all day on a hurt foot. But it was pay day so I didn't want to miss. After work I went to pay my bills and get dinner for family. While I was doing all that my sister called me and asked me to pick up an application for an apartment complex in town. OK, what the hell was up with her and her man?
Thursday, still in pain, but swelling was down. Luckily I did not break it. And I had no where to go so I went home.
Friday-another big order, but at least we started at a decent time. Got out at 4:00 and decided I deserved a caramel frappacino with an extra shot from Starbucks. So I went to get one and while there got another call from sis to say they (her and her man) was bringing a hot water heater out Saturday to put in. ?
So Saturday they showed up with two used hot water heaters. It was an all day job with two trips to Lowes (the last at high speed in an attempt to get there before they closed. Luckily the Nascar race was this weekend and all the cops were staked out along the routes taken by the fans.) But now I have hot water again after going without for about two months. All for a total of $50, dinner, and beer. Lowes wanted about $700. As a working artist with an day job I can't afford that. Not with gas prices like they are.
So, today is Sunday and I am doing housework the right way since I don't have to boil water now. Yea!!!!

She Moves Through The Shadows-A New Poem
She moves through the shadows
the darkened places of the hall
toward him she glides
a pale waith of beauty.
She passes by a tall window
where dust motes circle lazily
glowing brightly, those small galaxies
swirling around her dark form.
Back into shadows she moves
no outline of her can be seen
only a sound of dry cloth
whispering across the dusty floor.
Once again she appears
within the pale morning light
white skin gleaming
an ancient knowledge in her black eyes.
She reaches out to him
red-tipped nails on a fragile hand,
hesitantly she touches him
Death...or is it Life?
the darkened places of the hall
toward him she glides
a pale waith of beauty.
She passes by a tall window
where dust motes circle lazily
glowing brightly, those small galaxies
swirling around her dark form.

I fully intended when I started this blog to make it only an art blog, but when my camera broke I decided to post other things that interest me-as in books, music, games, my poetry and writings, etc. Whenever I do manage to get a new camera (if things will quit breaking down around here) I will begin posting my work again.
I have been working hard on smaller works to be ready for the holidays this year. I also want to start an etsy store-it has been increasingly difficult to sell art on ebay unless you're willing to sell at a deep discount.
So anyone who visits my blog be sure to check back in periodically.
