A Little Forgotten Bowl

Sometimes things that we take for granted as being there are overlooked. Take this little bowl. I made it in the early eighties in an attempt at pottery. I figured out early that pottery was not for me, but I did manage this cute little bowl. I think it shows the beginning of the colors and shapes I would use later on, but when I made I really didn’t think about it much.

I have carried this bowl every place I have moved to since then (an astounding seven times). I placed it on my kitchen counter among an array on candles and used it as a catch all. Today I was cleaning off said counter and noticed the bowl in the light coming from the window. It was filled with stuff. Since I was cleaning I dumped the stuff out to see what was there.

Wow, memories. Let’s see…from top left…
A silver watch with rhinestones that my dad gave me. It’s just a tad too small and the battery is dead, but it is from my dad. He gave it to me the year before he died.

A small bottle of patchouli oil, bought to give me a sense of creativity (I have many of these strewed about the house).

A box of matches from July 4th (wow, what a great fireworks show in the neighborhood).

A river rock found on one of my “let’s clean out the river” excursions several years ago.

One of my favorite pair of earrings. (I wondered where they were.)

A set of toe rings (Forgot I had those).

A penny from the Bahamas (no idea where that came from. I have never been there. Love to go though).

One of my many anklets with bells for belly dancing (or just walking about the house tormenting the furry ones. Barney tries to pull them off me).

And in the middle one lone earring that my ex-fiancé bought me. (the mate was lost many, many, many moons ago).

Who could of imagined that a little forgotten bowl would of held so many memories.

Memememe, the MeMe Award!

I have been awarded a MEME award by Kim over at merlinsmusings. I’m to pick out seven unknown things about me. That could be scary-for you folk. Let’s see…

1-Here’s something normal. I am my mother’s caregiver. She is wheelchair bound, oxygen dependant, mostly blind, semi deaf, diabetic, and has to have dialysis three times a week.

2-I love to eat frozen milk. Frozen milk with a shot of rum is even better. Frozen chocolate milk with rum is uber better. Frozen hot chocolate with rum is super uber better.
(stop snickering!)

3-After years of “studying art” in college, I only became an artist while taking a few months off from my job to take care of my stepfather before he died. It was then that I discovered Somerset Studio and was drawn into the world of mixed media. Haven’t looked back.

4-My all time fav movie is Resident Evil. Second fav would be Dawn of the Dead. Yes, I love zombie flicks.

(Why are you looking at me that way?).

5-I would love to travel the world one day. The place at the top of my list to visit? Romania.

6-I went through a Sioux ceremony once and met my totem animals and was given a native American name. I am Dances in Moonlight. I wish I could say it in the Sioux language.

7-I’m working on a paranormal mystery novel. I properly never get it published, but hey, it’s the book that I want to read.

So, that’s just some of my weirdness. I have much more.

Now for my seven nominees…and if any do not wish to participate I so understand. This is just to let you know I think highly of your blogs.

I really love her work. It is so mysterious and downright spooky sometimes.

Style Statement

I have been introduced to this book called Style Statement by Carrie McCarthy and Danielle LaPorte by inkonmyfingers.typepad.com and decided to get it. It suppose to help the reader find their life style, their style statement that relates to all parts of their life. So I read it and did the exercises inside.

Let me tell you now, this book is not for the faint of heart. It forces the reader to really examine themselves. While doing the exercises I have discovered a few things about myself that truly stunned me. I mean, I did not know some of that about me.
After I was done I found that I was a…..

Natural Timeless!

Quoted from the book-

Spirit: Natural is genuine, free from artificiality, affectation, and inhibitions. Natural is known for being spontaneous and easygoing. Natural hates to be fenced in and riles against conformity and unreasonable rules., though they are rooted in moral certainty and a strong sense of justice. Very much at ease with their essential selves, Natural is often very instinctive, sensuous, or highly sexual. They aren’t strangers to hedonism or pleasure seeking. They love to get down to basics and can be graceful and direct communicators. Down to earth, literally and figuratively, Natural has a deep reverence and respect for nature and ecological systems, which delight and replenishes them, and an appreciation of supernatural forces.

Look and feel: All things generated by nature: wood, minerals, gems. Natural coloring, textiles, and produce. Rustic, primitive, flowing, native, or common to it’s surroundings.

Definition of timeless from dictionary.com

Without beginning or end, eternal, everlasting, referring to or restricted to no particular time, enduring, abiding, permanent

This is so me! Now I understand my collection of stones (and here everyone thought I was a secret pagan), my dislike of trends, my love of ruins and abandon farmhouses, my need to get away to a spot in nature, my need of space.

Cat, Dogs, and Dignity Lost

Barneycan'tgoout

Awww! Barney can't go outside. Barney doesn't know how to come home and Mommy has to go looking for him.

Except for today. My nephew opened the door and Barnabas took the opportunity to dash out the door. He was gone before we knew it. I saw his bright white tail just has he darted behind the neighbors' house. I gave chase because I knew their pitbull was lose.

When I made it around the corner Barney was standing there, ears back, back up, tail fluffed and he was hissing for all his worth. Lily, the pitbull, is really just a puppy even though she is large and she wants to play all the time. She was just standing there watching that stupid cat as if she was trying to figure him out. She saw me and started jumping up and down doing her little happy wiggle. About that time another neighbor dog, a very big, very old black lab named Joe came over for a visit. It proved too much for Barney. He climbed up my body to perch on my head.

So I walked back to my house with this fluffed up hissing cat on my head, followed by these two big dog-one white and one black-who were trying to get me to pet them. I guess we made a sight to see. Good thing none of my neighbors were home to see it.
