October the First

Yay, It's October! My favorite month. It is time for the leaves to change and fall, the apples to ripen, and mums, pumpkins, and corn stalks bundles are everywhere. It's time for decorating ones front yard with Autumn scenes. It's time for watching a football game huddled under a blanket, for friends gathering around bonfires, time to pull out your most loved sweater. It's time for Starbucks to bring back the pumpkin spiced lattes!
It's also the month of scary. Halloween always singles the start of the holiday months. In my opinion Halloween should be a get out of work holiday so one can spend all day getting ready for that night. I mean, really, it's takes a while to become a convincing zombie.
Also, during October the TV stations pull out all the horror movies. And though I love horror flicks, there has been not too many of them lately. Sure there has been slasher flicks where the whole movie depends on special effects and shock value. The seems to not be a real plot. I guess this bothers me because I am a story teller. I like plot and deep characters. The suspense has been lost. Don't get me wrong. Everyone who knows me knows I can sit though twelve hours of zombie movies. I love B movies. But today's B movies lack the suspense of the old black and white movies of the fifties. There was just something about them-the fear of the unknown, the build up to the revel.

Inspiration Avenue Weekly Challenge-Metamorphosis

What am I becoming? A rose in bloom? A bird in flight? A star shining bright? A fire burning my soul, my spirit, my life.

This is what I came up with for Inspiration Avenue's challenge this week for Metamorphosis.

I have been seeing changes in my own life lately and have been wondering where they are taking me.

I chose four of favorite themes for this-fire, roses, birds, and stars.

Slow Down

I tried to make it outside with my camera to get the sun setting while it was a great orange ball, but just missed it. I think this is a good pic anyway with the sign. It's called "Slow Down and Watch The Sun Set"

Inspiration Avenue-Something Found

This week the theme at Inspiration Avenue was to use something found. I have been at my "day job" for way too many hours this week so did not have a chance to look for something this week so I used something I found a long time ago. A rattlesnake tail. I made a Native American inspired necklace out of it. I really wanted a real choker but my neck is too small and the choker would not look good. I know because I tried. I love Southwest and Native American jewelry.

I did use carnelian beads and bone beads I bought to make the necklace. It usually hangs in my bathroom because I don't wear it much. The guys at work have tried to talk me out of it. The cats don't like me to wear it either. They hiss and carry on when they hear it rattle. Must be a species memory thing because they have never seen a rattlesnake.

In Native American lore the rattlesnake is considered a messenger from the spirits as well as a protector and teacher. Maybe the rattlesnake is one of my totems and I was meant to find this tail.
