One World One Heart

Welcome to my posting for One World, One Heart. This is the last year for this event and I wish I had known of it sooner. So, let me introduce myself. My name is Kelly Jeanette though just call me Kelly or Kel. I am a mixed media artist and writer living in the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee, USA. There area is best known for bluegrass music, the International Storytelling Festival, and Bristol Motor Speedway.

Though I live here now I still consider myself a South Carolinian. I was raised on the coast and in the Piedmont area. I love the sea and try to visit Myrtle Beach, SC at least twice a year to fed the love.

Anyone who is familiar with my artwork knows two things about it-I like intense color and I like bling. I can't finish anything without putting something glittery and/or metallic on it. My mom always said I must of been a gypsy in a past life. I don't know if she was referring to the bling or the tendency to wander. I do love to travel.

Anything else you want to know this blog can tell you. It's all about me.

So, for the giftie. This is it, a mixed media necklace I crafted using handmade paper beads made from a magazine page and painted with iridescent paint, ribbon, yarn, wooden beads, shell pieces, wire, agate stone, and Tibetan bells.

It's not a perfect creation. That's just not me. To be commerically perfect is boring!

(sorry about the image. Photographing a necklace was harder than I thought. And the iridescent paint kept blurring.) If you don't want to be included in the give-away just say so in the comments.

The give away is open to all bloggers. I'll be picking the winner be random andinforming them by e-mail. Please leave me your e-mail if it is not on your blog so that I can let the winners know.

A Cool Exchange

If you have not yet checked out the Jan/Feb issue of Cloth,Paper,Scissors you should.
Especially the new challange on page 54. It is a swatch exchange.

Basically you take a swatch of cloth (18"x36") and do your thing with it. Then cut it into eight 9"x9". Send them to the magazine. You will get some back to do with as you will. The full rules are on this page.
If any of you are going to do this exchange I would love to see what you are doing. I'll post mine.
The swatches are due at the Cloth, Papers, Scissors office by March 28th.

Lost Pictures

Some people are claiming he made this up. Others think it's a great find. I think he really did find these pictures. I hope he can find the owners. These are great photos. Very professional looking.

An Revelation

I have been finding it hard to create lately. I had initially put it down to winter blues, post holiday blues, just plain old blues. I have finally figured out why.

I AM ALWAYS COLD!

All I want to do is huddle under a blanket as soon as I get home. I don't think I have been warm since September, except at night under three (yes, three) blankets. Or at Wal-mart in the entry way (that is some hot air).

It is hard to do anything when I'm shivering. And let's not forget the fact that the cold makes the arthrisis in my hands act up. Makes It difficult to hold a brush or pen.

At least the laptop makes my lap warm. And Barney on my neck (my own fur shoulder wrap).

I wish Spring would hurry and get here. I hate being cold and hurty.

My Snow Day

So, my day started off good. It had snowed over night. A beautiful, glittering snow.I mean, it really glittered. Beautiful in the porch light. I got up to go to work. It was easy to remove the snow from my car. My car started up just fine (which surprised me.). The roads looked really clear. So I started off. I made it to the top on the hill just 100 yards from my house and started to slide. And there was no stopping it until I was in a ditch. There went my morning. So I called work and was told that all the roads were bad. They looked clear, but apparently were covered in a thin layer of black ice.
So I walked back home. Where my boss called me to asked if I could find a way in. Yeah, be right there. Not. I live in the country surrounded by farmers. Wasn't going to bang on my neighbors doors at six in the morning to ask them to take me to work.
Boss called back to say forget it. Which I already had.
Then came the round of calls to wrecker services. I guess they all saw an opportunity to make some extra money off us. Every one I called wanted $60-$75 to pull my car out. Even the one I use when I have car problems wanted $65. What the *****. They only charged me $40 last time I had them tow my car.
I called my mechanic to ask if he knew someone that would like to make some cash. He didn't and he was too busy to come out. *sigh*
Called work to see if anyone there could pull me out after work. One of my co-workers said he had to go home and get his chains but that he would come out after work. Yay! We take care of each other there.
Later that day he called to say he couldn't find his chain. Started to feel as if I would have to call a wrecker. I was getting so not happy.
Then a miracle. My next door neighbor, a young hefty guy, along with a youngster from down the street, another young strong boy, knocked on my door. I was told to get my nephew coated up and the three of them would get the car out. I was dubious as I followed them down to where my poor car sat back end in the ditch. The snow was almost gone at this point. The younger guy got in and, with the other two pushing, gunned it and the car was in the street. I did a happy dance. I'm sure that entertained them. They also refused money for helping me and I know they both could use it.

I now know my car is front wheel drive. That's good to know.
So, I'll try this again in the morning. I can't afford to miss another day.

Oh, yes. My boss posted on Facebook that she was taking a snow day off tomorrow. Urgh! That means more work for me.
