Winners of the Halloween Party Blog Giveaway

First off I would like to thank everyone who stopped by my blog for the blog party. I had a great time visiting all of you as well. It's fun to get together to celebrate that day of the year when it's ok to be spooked out, scared, or just weird.

As promised, here are the three winners of my giveaway-nothing fancy, just a thank you giftie. If you want to know what the gifts were I will be linking to their blogs so you can check them out.

1-Isabelle Thornton of lechateaudesfleurs. She has a wonderful blog that I am now following.

2-Wendy of Wendy's Adventures in Wonderland. Such a fun blog!

3-Sarah Wallis of Circles of Rain. Some really lovely pic on her blog.

Ghost Adventures Wannabes-A Halloween Story

Emma looked up from her Ghost Hunters live show to see her three boys-Mutt and Jeff and little brother, Stumpy- lined up beside the couch. It was seven o’clock on Halloween Night.
“Mom, do you have an old radio we could borrow?” Mutt, the eldest asked.
“In my closet on the top shelf. Why?”
“We need a ghost box.” Jeff, the middle one, answered.
She watched as all three went to her room then trooped back through to the front door. She noticed all three were in head to toe black.
“Where are you going?”
“To the old mill to look for ghost.” Stumpy grinned excitedly.
Emma stared.
“Oookay. Be back before ten.”
“What? That won’t give us much time to find a ghost. Ghost Adventures are there all night.” Jeff argued.
“Ten. And watch out for snakes!” She shouted as the boys stomped out the door muttering under their collective breaths.
Outside they quickly began arguing.
“I’m lead investigator.” Jeff stated.
“No, I am! I’m the oldest.”
“So.”
“Why can’t I be?” Stumpy asked.
“Because you’re the youngest. You can be my helper and Mutt can be the tech guy.”
“Why do I have to be the tech guy?”
“Because you are the one with the video camera.” Jeff said.
“I want to be the tech guy!” Stumpy whined.
Jeff handed him the radio.
“You can try to get the ghost to talk through this.” He held out an old tape recorder they had found in the attic. “I’ll do the recording.”
“I still don’t see why I can’t be lead investigator.” Mutt muttered.
Jeff showed them his phone.
“Because I’m the one with the EMF app on my phone. Besides, I’m cooler and look better on camera.”
By that time they had reached the old mill.
“Are you sure there is ghost here?” Mutt asked Jeff.
“Has to be. It’s old, right?”
They stood in front of the awning dark door.
“Well, go on in, Jeff. You’re the lead investigator.”
Jeff reconsidered his stance, but since he didn’t want to look like a sissy in front of his brothers, he pulled out his flashlight and advanced into the room beyond, Mutt and Stumpy close behind.
The room was dark and full on cobwebs and dust. Jeff hoped there were no spiders there because he was afraid of them. He didn’t think it was warm enough for snakes. He lead the others to the middle of the room.
“Let’s start here. Start recording, Mutt.” He held out his phone with one hand and the recorder with the other. “Is there anyone here that wants to talk to us?”
They waited in apprehensive silence, almost afraid they would get an answer. But they only heard their own breathing. They went around the room asking them same question for a few minutes, but still heard nothing, till..
“What was that?” Stumpy asked.
They stood still and listened. Finally they heard a rustling near them. They tiptoed up to the sound and was just up on it when their cat, Fluffy, jumped out. With a scream the three boys fell back. Fluffy gave them an disdainful look and ran off.
“Let try the ghost box.” Jeff said.
Stumpy turned on the radio. Loud static burst forth.
“Turn it down!”
After the noise level went down, Jeff, trying to act cool like Zak Bagan, asked,
“Anyone want to talk to us? You can use this box to talk to us.”
Static filled the room for several minutes.
“Was that something?” Mutt asked.
“I didn’t heart anything.” Stumpy replied.
“I thought I heard some words.”
“Well, I didn’t and I’m holding it.”
“You to keep yakking and we won’t be able to hear anything.” Jeff punched Mutt’s arm.
“Watch it! You’ll make me drop Mom’s camera.”
Stumpy turned off the radio.
“I’m hungry. Are we going to be here much longer?” he complained.
“Real ghost hunters don’t get hungry before they find a ghost.” Jeff teased.
“Well, I don’t think there one here and I’m bored. I want to go home now.”
“We haven’t been here that long. We should stay a little longer.”
Suddenly they heard a knock above them. All three froze.
“Can you do that again?” Jeff asked.
Another knock sounded. Jeff gave his brothers an I Told You So grin.
“It’s up stairs. We should go look.” He said.
They turned to stare at the dark staircase leading to the upper floor.
“No way, dude!” Stumpy backed away. “I’m not going up there.”
Jeff looked at Mutt.
“You’re the oldest. Go on. Keep the camera on.”
“Uh uh. You’re the “Lead Investigator.” He shoved the camera at Jeff. “You go.”
Jeff took the camera and started for the stairs. He would show them he wasn’t afraid. He stopped at the bottom and looked back at them. Then back at the dark leading up to the top.
“Maybe we should all go together. Safety in numbers and all that.” He looked at them. “Come on! Go with me. Or are you chickens?”
That was the magic words. Mutt and Stumpy moved in behind Jeff and they began to climb the stairs. Just as they made it halfway they heard a deep growl come from the darkness above them. Stumpy let out a scream, dropped the radio, and bolted for the door. Another omniness growl sent Jeff nearly knocking Mutt down in his haste to make it to the door as well, Mutt on his heels. They could hear Stumpy still screaming as he raced home.
Emma looked up from her show as Stumpy came slamming into the house screaming that something was going to get him. He ran up the stairs and she heard his bedroom door slam. Seconds later Mutt and Jeff raced through the front door, out of breath and pale.
“Well, did you find any ghost?”
Jeff tried to play it cool.
“Maybe there is something there in that old mill.” Jeff shrugged and went to his room.
“But I’m not going to go back to find out.” Mutt declared as he went to his own room, slamming the door behind him.
Emma continued to watch tv, then turned to share a grin with her husband as he came silently through the back door.
“Happy Halloween, Honey.” He chuckled.

One World One Heart

Welcome to my posting for One World, One Heart. This is the last year for this event and I wish I had known of it sooner. So, let me introduce myself. My name is Kelly Jeanette though just call me Kelly or Kel. I am a mixed media artist and writer living in the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee, USA. There area is best known for bluegrass music, the International Storytelling Festival, and Bristol Motor Speedway.

Though I live here now I still consider myself a South Carolinian. I was raised on the coast and in the Piedmont area. I love the sea and try to visit Myrtle Beach, SC at least twice a year to fed the love.

Anyone who is familiar with my artwork knows two things about it-I like intense color and I like bling. I can't finish anything without putting something glittery and/or metallic on it. My mom always said I must of been a gypsy in a past life. I don't know if she was referring to the bling or the tendency to wander. I do love to travel.

Anything else you want to know this blog can tell you. It's all about me.

So, for the giftie. This is it, a mixed media necklace I crafted using handmade paper beads made from a magazine page and painted with iridescent paint, ribbon, yarn, wooden beads, shell pieces, wire, agate stone, and Tibetan bells.

It's not a perfect creation. That's just not me. To be commerically perfect is boring!

(sorry about the image. Photographing a necklace was harder than I thought. And the iridescent paint kept blurring.) If you don't want to be included in the give-away just say so in the comments.

The give away is open to all bloggers. I'll be picking the winner be random andinforming them by e-mail. Please leave me your e-mail if it is not on your blog so that I can let the winners know.

Opportunities

I was sent a message via Facebook that there will be a booth opening inside a local gallery during our Blue Plum Festival at the first of June. So I said yes and will be working like heck to be ready. A the work has to be small enough to carry and under $50, so I'm thinking magnets, tiles, cards, aceos, etc. More later.

As you can see on my sidebar I'm selling a book. I thought I would like to try digital art, but it is too much sitting and reading for me. Plus, the trial Photoshop expired and I so do not want to spend that much money on a computer program. I had rather hit Cheap Joes in Boone, NC for art supplies or Artopia in JC. I'm offering it to you guys first before listing it on ebay. I'm selling it for $13 which includes postage.

I have a question to put to all of you. I am thinking of adding Google Adsense to my blog. I could really use some extra cash. What do you all think? Would it put off people from wanting to visit my blog? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Memememe, the MeMe Award!

I have been awarded a MEME award by Kim over at merlinsmusings. I’m to pick out seven unknown things about me. That could be scary-for you folk. Let’s see…

1-Here’s something normal. I am my mother’s caregiver. She is wheelchair bound, oxygen dependant, mostly blind, semi deaf, diabetic, and has to have dialysis three times a week.

2-I love to eat frozen milk. Frozen milk with a shot of rum is even better. Frozen chocolate milk with rum is uber better. Frozen hot chocolate with rum is super uber better.
(stop snickering!)

3-After years of “studying art” in college, I only became an artist while taking a few months off from my job to take care of my stepfather before he died. It was then that I discovered Somerset Studio and was drawn into the world of mixed media. Haven’t looked back.

4-My all time fav movie is Resident Evil. Second fav would be Dawn of the Dead. Yes, I love zombie flicks.

(Why are you looking at me that way?).

5-I would love to travel the world one day. The place at the top of my list to visit? Romania.

6-I went through a Sioux ceremony once and met my totem animals and was given a native American name. I am Dances in Moonlight. I wish I could say it in the Sioux language.

7-I’m working on a paranormal mystery novel. I properly never get it published, but hey, it’s the book that I want to read.

So, that’s just some of my weirdness. I have much more.

Now for my seven nominees…and if any do not wish to participate I so understand. This is just to let you know I think highly of your blogs.

My Top 5 Inspirations

Inspiration Avenue has thrown a Blog Party in which everyone participating is to list our five creative inspirations. So without further ado here is mine

My #1 inspiration is the female mystique. What makes us women, what moves us, grooves us, challenges us, delights us, saddens us, our relationships with our mothers, daughters, and sisters, and forms our perception of our unique worlds.

My # 2 inspiration is music. While I am working I like to boogie my booty. You could say that when I create it is more like a performance art. Latino and hip hop works best. Yes, my bio says I am a hard rocker, but rock really does not lend itself well to creative dance thinking. Since I like to dance why should I not dance while working. Click here for one my favorite working songs. Be sure to turn off playlist on bottom first. Or listen to it first.

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones

My #3 inspiration is scent. Yes, I said scent. Patchouli for one can send me back to my college art study days, rose to my grandmother and her crochet, honeysuckle to quiet summer nights which are good for just sketching and writing.

10% Jasmine
10% bergamot
5% patchouli-because it is very strong
5% distilled water
70% vodka-no, don’t drink it (well, maybe a glass won’t hurt)
A glass perfume bottle

Depending on how strong you want the perfume, you can let the mixture stand for as little as 48 hours all the way to a month. The longer it stands, the stronger it will be. After your perfume has sat for your preferred time, add 2 tablespoons of the diluted water. If the perfume is too strong for you, you can add more water to get your desired scent strength. To make your scent last longer, add a tablespoon of glycerin to your perfume mixture.

My #4 inspiration is Bling! I can’t help it. I must be part gypsy. I love metallic paint, and glitter paint, and iridescent paint, and interference paint, and gold ink, and copper ink, and bronze ink, and beads, and jewels, etc.

Free MySpace Layouts

My #5 inspiration is my own personal symbols, dreams, nightmares, fears, poems, writings, and childhood memories.

SUMMER DAY

wings aglitter in the late sunlight
a dragonfly hovers over the pond
a breeze whispers through the willows
emerald green water ripples softly
cicadas sound out their mating calls
sweet honeysuckles overtake a broken swing
ghostly laughter barely heard
in the fading summer light

Artful Blogging

So, I got my copy of Artful Blogging, Summer Issue, and couldn't wait to get home to look at it. After fixing a pot of coffee I sat down to flip through it first. What a beautiful issue. The cover is absolutely stunning and the blogs featured inside are wonderful and inspiring. I really loved the first blog that showcased food as art. Quite yummy. Now I am reading the blogs. I have to read some of them before I go to bed. Yes, I am addicted to this magazine since the very first Artful Blogger. I can't wait for the autumn issue.

Here is the link to Somerset's Artful Blogging Page. Check it out!http://www.stampington.com/html/artful_blogging_sum08.html

I just wish mine own blog was up to par. Maybe this issue will help me. (a new camera would help, too, so I can post some of my artwork.)
