Types of Wine and Wine Glasses

With New Year's Eve coming up I thought this guide to types of wine glasses would come in handy.

And here is a basic list of the most popular wine types just to start with.

Christmas Memories-Part 2

This happened when I was about eight/nine and we were living in a dinky mobile home park in Florance, SC. I guess things were lean that year because there was not much under the tree that I can remember. But on Christmas eve we all got a great surprise. A knock came on our door that night with a merry ho, ho, ho. OMG, It was Santa! At our door! With a big bag of toys! He came in and gave out presents all around. I can't remember what they were, just that we had a personal visit from old St. Nick.
Years later and really to this day we have no idea who it really was, but I have a suspicion that it was a dentist that work with my dad's dental lab.

Any special memory you have of Santa?

Another Movie Trailer from the Past

My parents would take us to the drive in on Saturday nights. We would sit in the car, wrapped in blankets, listening to the tinny sounds coming from the sound box attached to the driver's window, begging for a trip to the conccesion stand. Then the big screen would light up and we would become quiet as the movie began.

This was one of the first movies we saw. It made me cry at the end. Really, it did. I was actually rooting for the monster. (I usually do.)

Easter Morning

I awoken this morning to silence. Both nephews and the cats were all still asleep. The neighbors were probably still sleeping off last night's party run. I was just warm enough to be drowsy. I had no place to go and not really anything to do for a change so I just laid there, reluctant to get up. I wanted to enjoy the quiet.

Then, into that silence, came one sound. One pure note of bird song. I'm not quit sure what bird, but it was a beautiful sound. A song of joy, of life, in celebration of a new morning, a promise of a sunny warm day. As I laid there listening to it's song I realized that today was Easter.

I thought of Easters past. The fun of my childhood on this day. Of me and my siplings finding Easter baskets waiting for us full of candy and toys. Of egg hunts, church services, and family dinners. It was only as an adult that I think back and wonder at my mother finding a way to get us those baskets because there was never really alot of money back then. Our holiday dinners were never big elaborate deals. And I can remember only once getting a new Easter dress thanks to my grandparents. I never understood the need for new clothes to wear to Easter services.

I think that the best thing I remembered about Easter was coloring eggs, of finding new unique colors combinations. Of playing with the dyes and making a really big mess in the kitchen. As my nephews grew up and I began helping them color eggs they of course got new things to play with -glitter, stickers, crayons, pens. I had a blast with them resulting in a mess in my kitchen. And I enjoyed hiding the eggs and watching them run around the yard trying to find them. I added the encouragement of attaching money value to each egg. But nothing made me smile the most then seeing their eyes light up when they got up and saw those brightly colored and stuffed baskets waiting for them. Me and my sister never bought premade baskets. We always bought the things empty and fixed them ourselves, individualizing each one according to the boy.

Of course we made sure the boys knew that Easter was not all about baskets and eggs and bunnies. That Easter was about Christ and His sacrifice for us. All of my boys are good born again Christens. They have their moments when I want to slap them on the back of the head sometimes, but for the most part they are good boys.

I asked Cory if he wanted an Easter basket. He rolled his eyes at me, but did admit that he would like a chocolate bunny. I guess I'll try to find one tomorrow on clearance.

I hope all of you have a Happy Easter and a great week to come.

Loves, Kelly

The Beginning of the Holidays

*sigh* Halloween is over and things quiet down. It is three weeks until Thanksgiving Day. This year with Mom gone I will NOT be cooking. I have informed my sister that I will be at her house for dinner this year and it had better be eariler than 7:oo. (She's bad to have dinner ready late.) Before then I'll just watch the Macy's Parade and rest. Paint some. Drink coffee and write. The weekend after that is the offical start of the holidays (for me at least). The Bristol International Speedway opens it's annul Speedway in Lights on Friday night. The whole track and around is decorated in thousands of lights. You can find out more here...

http://www.bristolmotorspeedway.com/events/autotrader_com_speedway_in_lights/

Of course Friday is also Black Friday which I am so glad I have to work. I went out on Black Friday once and saw way too much craziness. I'll never do it again. I don't need to save money that bad.

That Saturday is the Johnson City Holiday Parade and I always go even alone because I just enjoy it so much. Watching the faces of the little childern tickles me so. This puts me in the mood. After this I visit friends and we go out.

Sunday is decorating day. I drag all the outside lights out and start testing and stringing and chasing off the neighbors' dogs and doing more cursing than I should.

Oh, yeah, the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is a very business time for me.

I LOVE it!

Fireworks, Watermelons, and Rain

This July 4th I was forced by the economy to make a decision has how to celebrate. I’m sure a lot of people had to make the same decision. How to celebrate…or more to the point how much to spend to celebrate. I only had so much to spend. Did I want to have a great spread for the family picnic? Or did I want to have a fireworks display? How about a little of both…a small backyard cookout and lesser fireworks? In the end I opted for the fireworks. Why? 1-Because the only ones to show up for a cookout was my sis and her crew and they couldn’t be there until late because her man had to work late. So what was the point? 2-because I’m an unabashed firebug. I love playing with fire and explosives and fireworks. 3-because of the kids in my neighborhood. I wanted them to have a great fireworks display without their parents having to have the hassle of trying to get to the downtown display. So with my fireworks and the display of the neighbors on either side of me we had a great street wide fireworks.

Afterwards I cut up a watermelon for my niece and nephews and we ate it on the deck in the rain. Such fun!

It rained all night and is still raining. This always happens after fireworks around here.

Men, Tattoos, and Coffee Drinks

Our Ugly Pics

Mother’s Day has come and gone and now looking back at this past Sunday it really should have been called Sisters’ Day. Both of my sisters were down to visit with our Mom, but after about an hour Mom grew tired and went to rest and the various kids in the house (from my 9 year old niece to my 20 year old nephew) disappeared to do their own thing away from the prying eyes of grown-up. So us girls found our way out onto the porch to catch up. Catching up to us means discussing -the men in our lives, our brother in Florida (because he was not there to defend himself) and his weird messed up marriage, comparing our newest tattoos, checking out each others ring tones and pictures on our phones, and our favorite coffee drinks- among other things.

We really don’t live that far away-just an hour or two away from each other, but our lives keep us so busy we only get to see each other at holidays. I really love to be with Dianna and Angela and just talk, preferably at a Chinese restaurant.

It’s so funny how similar we are and yet how very different. Dianna is tall, brownish red hair and green eyed, has three girls, and works for the government. Hasn’t got a creative bone in her body. Only wants three choices when it comes to coffee drinks-iced, latte, or cappacino. Angela is tall, blond, and grey eyed. She has three boys, has a steady job as a dental technition, loves to do crafty things, wants only black coffee or a mocha fappacino, Me, I’mshorter than either of them, red haired and blue-eyed, no kids, a working artist, and I’ve tried about every drink at Starbucks and love hot tea.

But we are also the same as in we are into heavy metal music, have an addiction to tattoos, in love with Vin Desil ,and prefer cats over dogs.

Yeah, I miss my sisters when they are not here, but maybe it’s a good thing we don’t live closer to each other. I remember some of the fights we had growing up and the “heated discussions” we had as adults. Distance is good.

Well, finally got it up! I think I needed to add another string of lights though. (giggle) The bookcase makes a great background, uh? I think some of my ornaments are missing, too.

But I liked putting it up. A little holiday music, some hot tea, a scented candle lite. Oh, yeah!

I even had some help. For those of you out there with this special kind of help, read this

The Ten Steps Of Putting Up A Christmas Tree With A Cat "Helping"

Step 1-pull all branches out of box. Pull cat out of box.

Step 2-put tree together. Pull cat out of tree.

Step 3-Unravel lights. Pull lights out of reach of cat. Pull cat out of tree.

Step 4-begin stringing lights on tree. Step over cat several times before stepping on cat. Put down lights to go makeup to cat.

Step 5-Finish lights while cat is pouting.

Step 6-repeat step 4 with berry string and garland.

Step 7-Unpack ornaments. Pull cat out of box. Begin placing ornaments on tree.

Step 8-Search for bulbs. Find them under couch where cat is playing with them. Retrieve bulbs. Cat is miffed and bites your ankle.

Step 9-Put cat in Bathroom.

Step 10-Turn on LOUD Holiday music to drown out angry cat yowls and finish tree.

First Snow and Christmas Past

Looks like we might have a white christmas this year. It's snows just alittle bit here every other day. I would love to see some snow on Christmas Day. Just not enough to keep me from getting to work later on in the week.
I really don't remember having a white Christmas in-well-decades.
I do remember one Christmas when visiting my grandparents when I was a child it snowed on Christmas. I can still see the white blanket glistening under a bright sun as we traveled familiar roads to reach their house, excited about seeing them, knowing there was all kinds on goodies awaiting us. Grandpa always had cream drops for us and Grandma baked cookies. They weren't rich and usually their presents consisted on coloring books and crayons, bubble bath, maybe night gowns that Grandma had made us girls. It was enough. Just being there with them at Christmas was what we wanted.

Autumn

Yea! It's finally Autumn. The weather is cooling down, even if it's a little rainy. I was standing on my porch last night and a wind came through, rattling the leaves off the trees in the woods behind my house. Seeing those yellow popular and crimson mable leaves fly across my yard just made my heart thump.

I love Fall.

This time of the year I can ride down the road and see peoples little autumn vignettes set up in their yards featuring the hay bales, corn stalks, scarecrows, mums and pumkins. I guess I like this season because it features all my favorite colors-reds, golds, oranges, and black. I just get giddy when I pass a corn field or a pumkin sale or a greenhouse covered in mums. And the sky is the color blue that can be seen only in Autumn.

And now that it is October it's time to think Halloween, my second favorite holiday. Yes, it's only one day, but the whole month is really deciated to the human love of being scared out of our wits. In a fun way. And it all accumalates on October 31st when our kids go out in search of sweets in all their cute costumes. Then they bring it home for us to go through and hunt out the chocolate....I mean bad candy.

And yes, I am already thinking ahead to Christmas. As well as the stores. I swear I've seen christmas decorations and supplies in some stores.

Damn.
